This large site managed by the friends of Fort Steele, was originally managed by the provincial heritage branch. The site is important historically as a river crossing was established there in the 1800s enabling the Kootenay River to be negotiated on the trail to the gold rush fields to the north.
John Ivison and Associates were selected to undertake a site-wide assessment of the fire and life safety as well as security systems. A strategy has been set out in a fire protection programme with various phases of implementation over a five year period.
The strategy will permit various building systems to be restored to service and a site-wide fire alarm system to be installed along with other works in various phases. The project is under consideration for future funding by the province of BC. We would carry out a total systems design and act as the Coordinating Registered Professional.
